WASHINGTON (Feb. 8, 2024) — The National Cherry Blossom Festival needs hundreds of volunteers for various events throughout the four-week long celebration of spring from March 20 through April 14.
Festival organizers invite volunteers to experience the Festival in a unique way — from behind the scenes. They seek friendly, reliable and enthusiastic individuals, groups, businesses and more to participate. General knowledge of Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area is helpful, but not necessary.
“We are thankful for the volunteers who give their time and effort to make the Festival happen year after year,” said Diana Mayhew, Festival president and CEO. “We’ve seen families, friends, co-workers, and more come together and work alongside our team to successfully execute each of our dynamic events.”
Volunteers assist the Festival team in many ways, including:
- Balloon handlers and banner carriers for the televised National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade® (Ages 16+only)
- “Kite Cops” to enforce safe kite-flying at the Blossom Kite Festival
- Stage managers and operations crew members at Petalpalooza®
- Pet care team member to support Yappy Hours and Pet Comfort stations
- Event set-up and breakdown, site maintenance
- Engaging visitors at the information tent at the Tidal Basin and other signature events, and more
