150+ Businesses, Organizations, and Landmarks to Join the National Cherry Blossom Festival for City in Bloom
Washington, D.C. [March 1, 2023] – The spirit of spring’s biggest welcome party, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, will spread throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia communities with all things pink and petals starting March 20. The Festival today announced that more than 150 Washington, D.C. area businesses, organizations, landmarks, and other sites will come alive with springtime pride by participating in its special City in Bloom tradition.
From tens of thousands of signature cherry blossom decals on storefronts across the region, to pink-tinged Long Bridge Park in National Landing, to an endlessly Instagrammable CityCenter installation on Palmer Alley in downtown D.C., City in Bloom will show the D.C. region Spring It On in a stunning visual display.
“No other part of the country welcomes spring like the D.C. region — with beautiful, blooming brilliance, bright lights, and unique, creative art installations,” said Diana Mayhew, president and CEO of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. “From blossom-themed decorations in the windows of local D.C. storefronts and projections on landmarks and bridges, to bright pink lighting on buildings across National Harbor and throughout Mosaic District, City in Bloom brings businesses and organizations together to showcase the return of spring.”
Other City in Bloom highlights for 2023 include:
- Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge will be lit up in pink once again throughout the Festival, starting with a special lighting display on March 20, the first day of spring, and April 8 during Petalpalooza presented by Chase.
- While riding Metro, the best way to experience the Festival, residents and visitors should keep an eye out for special cherry blossom wrapped metro cars and buses. They can also purchase a custom 2023 National Cherry Blossom Festival SmarTrip card at L’Enfant and Navy Yard Metro Stations while supplies last.
- New this year, the H Street Streetcar will invite riders to Spring It On with a custom cherry blossom wrap, in addition to the returning Circulator Blossom Bus that takes riders to the blossoms for only $1.
- Annual favorites will also light up in pink again, including the NoMa Water Tower, Dulles International and Reagan National Airports, the Capital Wheel at National Harbor, the fountain at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, and Union Market.
