About the Festival
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the world’s great celebrations of spring. It’s spring’s biggest welcome party. It’s an iconic tradition filled with food, fun, art, and culture celebrating the famous cherry blossoms.
It’s Happening Soon…
When: March 20-April 16 (four weeks)
What: Programs and events that are creative, diverse, and promote traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty, and community spirit
Where: Throughout D.C. – all eight wards – plus across the region – from National Landing and Mosaic District in Virginia to National Harbor in Maryland.
It’s Special Because…
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the world’s greatest celebrations of spring and a perfect time to celebrate the start of a new season in one of the most iconic cities in the world. The Festival encourages attendees to Spring It On this season with family and friends by partaking in new experiences and beloved traditions, exploring neighborhoods and a city in bloom while embracing springtime in Washington, D.C. The Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington, D.C. It celebrates the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. And today, it welcomes more than 1.5 million people – residents, visitors, dignitaries, young, old, friends, and families. Festival events are primarily free and open to the public.
