Miho Hazama & m_unit

Strathmore is excited to announce that internationally recognized composer and conductor Miho Hazama and her innovative jazz chamber orchestra, m_unit, will perform as part of its Windows series.
Recognized as one of “25 for the Future” by Downbeat, Hazama has released three albums with her ensemble, m_unit. Her debut album, Journey to Journey, earned her the Jazz JAPAN Rising Star Award, while her third album, Dancer in Nowhere, received a Grammy nomination. Hazama has also composed for acclaimed artists such as Joshua Redman, Lionel Loueke, Christian McBride, and Gil Goldstein, and her compositions have been performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and Metropole Orkest, among others.

During the show, Hazama will be joined on stage by a small group of young musicians from Strathmore’s Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras. Together, they will perform the jazz standard “Epistrophy” by Thelonious Monk and a “Maiden Voyage Medley” by Herbie Hancock—both arranged for strings by Hazama herself. The students will also present one of her original works, “Run.”
Hazama first visited Strathmore in 2023 as the inaugural resident artist of AMPlify, an initiative that offers compensation, rehearsal space, and professional partnerships to support artists in dedicating time and energy to the creative process

Tickets are available online or by calling Strathmore’s Ticket Office at 301.581.5100.

Strathmore extends its gratitude to Ambassador Yamada Shigeo for serving as Honorary Host of this performance and to the Embassy of Japan for its promotional support.
