Get ready to experience the vibrant culture of Japan at the Japan-America Society of Washington, D.C.’s 63rd Annual Sakura Matsuri-Japanese Street Festival, held in the heart of Washington, D.C. As a Premier Event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the Matsuri offers a weekend of unforgettable performances, delicious food, and cultural exhibits.
The Sakura Matsuri is the largest celebration of Japanese culture in the U.S., transforming Pennsylvania Avenue into a lively venue. Over two days, enjoy 24+ hours of entertainment, including traditional Japanese music, dance, J-Pop, martial arts, and more.
2025 Marquis Features
This year, the Matsuri welcomes sumo wrestlers Ichi and Hiroki for a live exhibition bout and fan interaction during the Sunday Sumo event. Don’t miss this Sunday-only feature!
Japanese progressive metal band Ulma Sound Junction, known for their anime appearances, will perform on both Saturday and Sunday, showcasing their tight musicianship and clever songwriting.
The 2025 Matsuri offers more Japanese food than ever before, from ramen and sushi to mochi and traditional festival treats. New this year is the Tachinomi Pavilion, a timed-ticketed “mini sake festival” where you can sample Japanese and American sakes. Kirin Beer will also be available for a refreshing drink while enjoying the festival.
