Tysons Community Alliance, in Partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival,
Plants 17 Cherry Trees in Tysons
Tysons, VA – On Saturday, May 6th, Tysons Community Alliance (TCA), the National Cherry Blossom Festival (NCBF), and members of the community came together to plant 17 cherry trees. The trees were planted in two locations, Cityline Partners’ property near Scotts Run and the Tysons Corner Center side of the I-495 pedestrian bridge.
Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik and National Cherry Blossom Festival President Diana Mayhew gave remarks at an official ceremony, hosted by the Tysons Community Alliance.
The planting of cherry trees is part of TCA’s efforts towards placemaking in Tysons, connection with the community, and building partnerships with local, regional, and national stakeholders.
“The planting of cherry trees serves as a symbol of Tysons’ continued transformation into an inclusive, urban destination within the region and around the world,” said Supervisor Palchik. “It is through partnerships like the one between Tysons Community Alliance and the Festival, that will make our community blossom.”
During the event, dozens of volunteers came out to help plant the trees. The planting was divided between two locations. Casey Trees, an official partner of NCBF, trained volunteers on how to properly plant cherry trees. Trees were planted on Cityline Partners’ property near Scotts Run and at the start of the newly installed pedestrian bridge located over I-495 at Tysons Corner Center.
Saturday’s event marked the first planting in Tysons Community Alliance’s beautification efforts and the first of many cherry tree plantings.
“Cherry blossoms symbolize new beginnings,” said Diana Mayhew, president of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. “And Saturday’s cherry tree planting marked a new beginning in our partnership with Tysons Community Alliance. We look forward to continuing to work together to bring the joy of the cherry blossoms and the Festival to this wonderful community.”
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the National Cherry Blossom Festival,” said Rich Bradley, interim CEO of Tysons Community Alliance. “The Alliance was formed, in part, to engage the community and build lasting relationships with organizations like the Festival. Through this partnership, we are able to provide a point of connection between Tysons and the greater DC region.”
